What she means: Dragon Age 2, for all its (numerous) faults, had undeniable passion put into it. Far from being a cash grab, there is enough evidence in its themes and characters to prove that there was a story that Bioware wanted to tell. For all its laziness, not a single plot point is forgotten, and few side quests feel pointless. That doesn’t forgive its bugs and lazy reused maps, but it shows something pretty sad: that people cared about this game and were forced to turn it into a bastardised version of what they intended just to appease EA’s schedule. We could’ve had a great game, not an unfinished product with nothing but “what if’s”.
Following this post from @belovedyuuri, I thought I would take the time to appreciate and give some love to some of my favourite fanfic writers.
I
wish I could include every single writer I’ve read a fic from but, the
post would be 3 miles long. Since my blog is mainly Fenhawke themed, I
will restrict myself to my favourite FenHawke writers and highlight one
of their creations as well as things I appreciate about them..
Minwrathous is a little angsty porcupine who excels at giving me feels for my favourite DA character: Hawke
Serves main dishes that ranges from FenHawke to Pavellan to ZevWarden. I am lucky enough to be able to get sneaky peeks into her writing and I can see that she puts a lot of thought and research into her writing
What
I appreciate the most about her: I can spam her inbox with writing
prompts; she is one of my sounding board when it comes to my art and
(totally not related to fic writing) she is a great overwatch partner
and has, time and time again, saved my DPS ass from getting killed.
Fic rec: Act One in terms of fic but, my real recommendation would be ALL her lovely prompts that she posts on her tumblr for her followers
Kaer was (and still is!) my writer crush when I came on Tumblr looking for more FenHawke material; Her Leopold Hawke (see art below) is one of my favourite custom male Hawkes around.
Kaer’s masterchef menu features lots of FenHawke and Pavellan with aromas of fluff, angst, love, support and bedroom spiciness
What I appreciate the most about her: She can turn a simple, insignificant moment/every day thing into a masterpiece that will make me want to go back to the beginning and re-read all over again. I admire her devotion for her fans and how perfect her writing flows when you read it. Getting a K writing prompt pop up on my dash always brightens my day.
Stitch’s Hawke, Garrett Hawke (see art below), is another one of my favourite custom Hawkes around: his looks, his personality, his story are just A++++ (also bonus points for when this Hawke goes all softie with Fenris because, ah… my heart melts all over the floor)
Stitch is, hands down, my favourite alternate universe writer out there; Albatross is a FenHawke AU but they’ve also written Pacific Rim/FenHawke crossovers and more.
What I appreciate the most about Stitch is their sense of humour, their support for other creators and the sheer amount of skill I feel it takes for writing a good AU: taking important parts of different fandoms/worlds and merging them together in a beautiful masterpiece that makes sense
Rifa also owns a lot of my FenHawke feels with this fic
Rifa not only writes FenHawke but also a lot of different pairings and fandoms
What I appreciate the most about them is how well they depict the inner workings of Fenris. Through their writing, you get a glimpse of the thoughts and struggles of Fenris but, also the love he has for Hawke.and the hopes he has for both of them.
Lisa is another writing machine: every day I see 1 or more prompts on my dash from her and I wish I had the time to read them all because her writing is just perfect
If you look at her masterpost, you will see that Lisa writes all different kinds of pairings from different fandoms – a jack of all trades if you will!
What I appreciate the most about Lisa is her dedication to her followers but also to her writing. Seeing a m!hawke/Fenris prompt from her pop up on my dash is akin to having a KitKat moment–I need to drop whatever I’m doing to read it, right then and there.
There are SO many more I want to include in this post but I will stop here.
From the bottom of my heart, I send out a big THANK YOU to all the fanfic writers out there. You keep the fandom alive with your talent and dedication.
I encourage everyone to take the time, not just today but every day, to let at least one writer know how much you appreciate them.
Playing a qunari in Inquisition was glorious. Glorious and hilarious, because the camera struggled with you (dwarves have a similar issue I suppose). Characters would have serious conversations and the camera would just… focus on their face and my tits. Occasionally my chin would come into view. And when the camera focused on me, well… Nice hairline guys (except you Bull, you should be ashamed of being taller than me, how dare you)
And the kissing scenes… ye gods… There were a lot of bended knees to make that work I tell you. But at least you get some support from that wooden pillar if you’re snogging Blackwall.
Spare a thought to the poor dwarves and consider supporting them with boxes to stand on over at Patreon, or flying lessons over at society6.
