Alistair’s WoTv2 Entry in Summary

  • Alistair was born in 9:10 Dragon and delivered to Redcliffe Castle by Duncan, where he grew up as a stableboy.
  • Isolde was under the belief that Alistair was Eamon’s illegitimate son, and thus the reason that Eamon wouldn’t speak of where he came from. (Of course we know the real reason from The Calling.)
  • Throughout the years, Duncan visited Redcliffe to ask about Alistair’s well-being. (As he promised Maric he would do in The Calling.)
  • In 9:20 Dragon he was sent to a monastery in Bournshire against his will, to become a templar. He was “by all accounts” an “unenthusiastic pupil,” and the other templars would ridicule him and tell him he’d be shipped off to a Circle in the Anderfels as soon as he took his vows.
  • In 9:29 Duncan visited the monastery looking for a recruit for the Grey Wardens, and a tournament was held. Initially, Alistair was not allowed the honour to participate, since he was a “troublemaker,” but Duncan then requested otherwise. Ultimately, Duncan said he wished to recruit Alistair, despite the others besting him. The Grand Cleric forbade it and called it insulting, so Duncan invoked the Right of Conscription and off they went. 
  • Alistair loved being a Grey Warden, and for the first time, felt like he belonged somewhere.
  • There’s a lot of people who believe Alistair isn’t really Maric’s son, but the whole thing was concocted by the Grey Wardens to put a usurper on the throne. A royal inquest funded by nobles of the Bannorn in 9:31 was deemed inconclusive.

One of the most iconic lines in any dragon age romance ever is “Ten years from now, a hundred years from now, someone like me will love someone like you, and there will be no templars to tear them apart.” In fact it’s literally my favorite line in any dragon age romance ever. Why? Because it’s star crossed, it’s destiny, it’s everything and beyond. Anders is such a romantic and this line honestly was the final tipping point for me that he was the best da2 romance for me.
